I haven't posted in quite a while, but here I am. I was cleaning up a haphazard shelf full of coins and supplies when this popped out. It's from one of those scammy "Unsearched wheat / Indian penny roll" on ebay, bought when I was unaware that they were scams.

I tried to capture the date as best I could in an image, but in hand, I am positive of it being 1872. Is this at all collectible? PCGS population report says that there is only 1 PO01 1872 indian.

Whaddya think?

Does it even qualify as PO01?

I'll take your word for it that it's an 1872. Scarcer date, but hard to see this worth much more than ten bucks if that.

If it is in fact a 1872 IHC, then you may get around 20 dollars for it on ebay. This issue is highly sought even in very low grades because it is a semi key date in the Indian head series.

If you have the money to do it, send it to PCGS. If it is a PO01, or even straight grades slightly higher, you can maximize value selling.
Rest in Peace

I was thinking 1879, looks like a strong N reverse too.

It would qualify for a PO1 only if you can be sure of the date.
I tried to enhance the numbers but still cannot say for sure
what year it is.

It's not a lowball if TPG can't read the date. Waste of money to submit this. So what's it worth even if you got PO-01?

It can only be 1872 or 1873. Only those years had the small date font.

I'm not sure if I'm supposed take this literally or not, but if PCGS agrees that it's an 1872 PO-01, it's worth $75.
