I don't have any of these funky coins, but 99 cents later, and I now have one.

I don't know anything at all about it but fortunately it comes with a spectacular attribution from the seller, to wit:

"IC-XC, Christ bearded and nimbate, wearing tunic and
kolobion, seated upon throne without back: holds Gospels in left hand. Dot in each limb of nimbus cross. No stars.

MANUHL DECP, The Virgin on right blessing Manuel on left,
both standing facing; Manuel holding labarum and cross on
globe; Theta to right of Mary. Three jewels on emperor's
loros between waist and collar piece, loros waist has dots/pellets in diagonal cross arrangement, collar has 3 jewels.

Ref: Sear#1966. Dumbarton Oaks Collection IV 13.c."

Now that's an attribution more befitting a $99 coin!

I can't see 90% of what seller describes here, but for what I paid, the fact that I can see ANY details is really amazing, considering what the equivalent amount will buy you in Roman coinage -- a big fat nothing!

Cropped seller pictures. You can see some details on one side, not as much on the other.

I must now go find one of these in much better condition...darn coin addiction is upon me again...

Scyphate coins like trachy's must be difficult to sharply photograph given their curved form. I have a hard enough time maintaining consistent focus on flat coins.

Well done, Adam. Can't beat that price. Congrats.

Thanks Bob! I'd like to add a nicer example soon.

Can't beat a trachy for a buck. Here is one of mine with a clearer legend, these are seldom fully struck due to how they were struck on a round die.

Nice! And nice that you can actually show the legends that answer paralyse's comment:

Obviously his seller just copied stuff out of a catalog or an auction listing.

St. Theodore is on my list, and he shows up on some of these (on the reverse in place of Mary) in the late 12th and 13th c. on coins of Manuel and (not surprisingly) Theodore.
So at some point I will need to branch out into Byzantine and learn from you guys while doing so.
