My 1865 error Three Cent Nickel is missing "of" in United States of America. My local retailer told me his boss was not interested bc of a grease stain on it and told me to clean it with alcohol and a q-tip.
I AM NOT THAT STUPID TO CLEAN AND DAMAGE A COIN!
I wanted to know, it is not certified but was told it is graded AU-50.
I wanted to know if I should sell it and if so how much, I will post pics asap, but I am currently not able to.

Maybe what he was trying to say was that it is likely a grease-filled die error. They are fairly common and would not add very much value to your coin. Also, using alcohol and a q-tip on a coin is not necessarily bad cleaning, though most of us here prefer acetone.

to CCF. Post photos when you can. It does sound like a Grease Filled Die,and minor. Not much if any premium.

The lettering of the 'OF' may have been grease or debris filled.

Just guessing, need pics.

Calm down. Cleaning with alcohol and a q tip isn't always bad.

Possibly the dealer said it was a Grease Filled Die or Struck Through Grease?

Just don't RUB it with the q-tip. Frankly I prefer t"swish" it around in the liquid and let the flowing liquid do the work and not touch the surfaces with something solid at all if possible.
