Slabbed Animal Coins: What Is Out There?

I have been buying her current or recent date slabbed world animal coins (most or all bullion). She loves them, and because I like to make my wife happy I want to surprise her with a new one as often as possible. Thus far, I have found Somalia Elephants, Chinese Pandas, Australian Koalas, 50 cent shark coins and a Salt Water Crocodile, and a Chad lioness, all in PCGS holders. Of course many of these issues change design annually, so there is a lot to get that is different just by assembling date sets. While my wife would be pleased with a few different views of a koala, as she would get in a date set, what she really wants is one of each animal on Noah's Ark. So, if anyone could steer me to potential new additions to look for for my wife's menagerie, I would be grateful. I do want something that purports to be a real coin from a real country. No rounds or medals. Natural looking animals only, please no cartoons like those silly Australian Great White Shark coins. And finally, we have a strong preference for TPG slabbed coins. I have trouble fathoming why anyone would pay to slab a recent bullion coin, but there seem to be a ton of them out there. Since they are there, we find the slabbed coins to be preferable for storage, display and examination.and strongly prefer them to loose raw coins. I know that sounds a lot like the sin of buying a painting based on its size and where it will go in the house, but it is a sin I will gladly commit for the smile I will receive. Finn235 Pillar of the Community United States 6130 Posts	Posted 10/08/2018 11:08 pm I assume that in looking for exclusively slabbed coins, you are also wanting reasonably large coins struck in precious metal? If that isn't a requirement, it is possible to buy snap-close slabs, although finding a snug fit for world coins might be a challenge. Probably 75% of all world coins featuring animals are not worth slabbing, just because there is neither intrinsic value or any significant numismatic value, even at grades above 65. One of my all-time favorite modern animal coins is the 1960s/70s Peruvian 1/2 and 1 Sol coins featuring a llama; they only cost a couple bucks even in high MS: Report this Post to the Staff
