Hi all,

Found this 1946 S... that appears to be an inverted S.
Sad thing is it is pretty dinged up. So, that is why I am asking to confirm incase it is somehow just appearing that way due to damage.

Also, wondering if it is inverted, how do the dings effect the variety as far as worth? Does it cancel out an value?

Thanks!
*Corrected... I forgot to post the close up!

I know there are 3 S mint marks for that year... I suppose a different style is the one that is inverted then...

Thought possibly S looked upside down as the top is wider than the bottom... and seems to had larger notch at top.

But I see that is normal compared to your reference.
Thanks

This has always struck me as odd as well.

It is a bit out of the ordinary compared to other dates, but it's normal.

Agreed , this is a normal Ball serif mintmark you have on your coin and this style is the one that was punched into a die inverted .

Yes - I re-looked into it, and this is the correct style mint mark, but is not inverted.

I agree it does look odd and top heavy... I suppose ;) and especially on this coin, compared to my others of this date... possibly due to the MD on the mint mark?

Anyways... I see it is normal now!

Thanks guys!
