I like getting the larges Cents without the Newcomb Variety Listed. Well Purchased an 1817 of a dealer on ebay. Got it a couple days ago decided to try and look it up tonight. Well it's worn so it took me a bit. Then I realized why it wasn't matching up. Hopped on over to the 1847 and there she was lol. The joys of taking the chance on bad pics.

It had to be a REALLY bad pic if you couldn't tell the difference between an 1817 and an 1847 large cent.

I suppose it could have been worse.

Yes really bad since the two have completely different head styles.

That must be an atrocious coin too if you couldn't even tell the difference when it came. What are you buying dude?

Certainly had to have been some poor pics you sued to make your decision. But you did figure it out in the end!

Okay Here is the Coin picture I looked at. Keep in Mind I like em rough and no newcomb variety listed as that is part of the fun for me. Here was the listing title Tough - 1817 Large Cent - US Early Copper Coin *175 Can from a Seller that I have seen mentioned on here a few times for being okay to buy from so I pulled the trigger without even really looking at the coin close. Lesson Learned

Well, just remember that design wasn't made in 1817 - that is a Braided Hair cent, not a Coronet Head.

You might be surprised what three years or so of carrying it around with some other change in you pocket might do for it.
