Bought this well worn coin on the cheap yesterday. Looks like it has some of the markers for N-16 but not sure. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1838-Large...047675.l2557

I don't know about the Newcomb number but it's a good thing you paid such a low price.

G? Not as I see it.
AG? That's what I'd go with BUT possibly a DETAILS coin too.

Reverse die is not late enough to be an N-15 or N-16.

N-15 and N-16 share the same reverse die as N-11/13 but the die is in a MUCH later die stage and he doesn't believe your coin is in a late enough die stage to possibly be either N-15 or 16. N-15 has strong obv denticles which yours does not, N-16 has heavy flowlines in the field below the jaw and in front of the neck. I don't see them on your coin. I think you have a late stage N-11 before the Cud formed between stars 1 and 2 (N-13)
