Unknown Wreath On This Islamic Coin

theunsla Valued Member South Africa 112 Posts	Posted 10/19/2018 12:33 pm Hi everyone. I'm usually good with identifying coins from Egypt or Turkey, but this one stumps me. The wreath is the same on both sides, with open leaves. Can anyone identify this coin, please. Maybe Algeria? Report this Post to the Staff

Albert Pillar of the Community United States 1913 Posts	Posted 10/19/2018 2:08 pm I think the coin is Turkey, but it could be hard to find a matching photo. So I would still search that country. Much of the coin details do match Ottoman Empire, but I did fail to hit the nail on the head only finding many similarities among the coins in my books. The coin seems to be an imitation 1/2 Cedid Mahmudiye gold coin from Turkey (KM# 644). 19mm, and about 0.8 grams, but not gold. The flowers in the wreath seem to have been used on gold coins only, but unfortunately this is an imitation. Report this Post to the Staff
