Please help me. I am not a collector pro but coins facinate me. I came accross this out of luck. 1988 unmintted looks like silver almost perfect condition penny.

To CCF! What you have here is an artificially plated coin. This happened after it left the U.S. Mint, so it's considered Post Strike Damage ( PSD), and it's only worth face value.

to CCF. I agree it has been plated. Yes a plated coin will weight more, but such a small amount you would need a scale that at least goes to 0.001 or even better 0.0001. Check ebay sold third party slabbed missing copper plating,PCGS or NGC or ANACS to see what a real un-plated cent looks like.

Yes, but you don't know what it weighed before it was plated. It's preplated weight could be anywhere from about 2.4 to 2.6 grams (Mint specs). And some may be a little above or below that range (slightly thick or thin planchets) A typical plating will add around .05 grams to the weight. S unless you KNOW what a particular cent weighed before it was plated, weighing it afterward isn't going to tell you anything.

Please explain what you mean by "unminted".

Do you mean no mint mark?
Do you mean no copper plating?
What do you mean?

Normal coin that has been plated post-mint. Damage, not an error.
