Hi everyone, I just picked up this rather nice 1695 Thaler. I purchased it from a very reputable dealer. It is KM# 1275.3. I think that it is a North American Very Fine + (But not quite Extra Fine). It's 46mm, 27 grams, sounds of silver, looks quite authentic on the obverse, and the edges look good. And, honestly, I don't have any questions - I just wanted to show off my new Thaler.

Ugly man on a lovely coin.
Not an uncommon combination.

nice coin; and your grade is spot on as well.
Coins from the 17th century are never something to sneer at :)

I have to agree with cableguy815 on both thoughts. At 46mm, its a nice hefty piece of 320+ year old history

I am sorry to be the party pooper again, but this coin does not seem legit to me.
Are you sure it is authentic?
Please do show some edge-pictures.

coinworldtv- thanks for the input. But what in particular makes you suspect that this piece may be suspect? I'm just curious . This coin is presently in my safe, but i'll b able to take some pics of the edges soon.

Well, I hope you do not have too many of that source in your safe, but this coin is a joke.
This is one of the most copied thalers of Leopold I, with time you get a feeling for it.
Just look at the edges and compare with a real coin then you will know.
People often buy forgeries like that for half of the price of an authentic coin and live in a pink bubble until they realize that they have thrown money in the garbage bin.

Judging by the pictures I'm leaning more on coinworldtv's opinion. The coin looks more like a Chinese/Russian fake !

Mine is 28.65 grams, 46.5-46.7mm, same year. @Archraz, your coins is okay to me except the weight of the coin. The edge of this coin is plain so can it give any clues for the authenticity? I don't know.

I am not convinced. I don't immediately see anything in the OP coin that screams FAKE. I agree this coin's weight is on the lower side but that could be just because of truncation. To compare, the below sample auctioned off at Sincona weighed 27.8g

I don't see any problems to my coin. Please comment. 28.65gr, 46.5-46.7mm, somewhere bent in the central of the coin. Plain edge

@Archraz - This edge is WRONG, it is tooled.
What did you had in mind when you said "the edges look good"?
You probably have a copy!
You might want to reconsider also another of your statements: "...purchased it from a very reputable dealer".
