Howdy y'all! I'm having trouble finding a coin like mine. Well, let me rephrase that. I'm having trouble finding an exact match to my coin. I have a VICTORIA D:G: BRITT:REG:F:D 1889 HALF PENNY. I have found coins almost identical except that they say "ONE PENNY" and mine says "HALF PENNY" but the pictures are very close to the same. although for some reason VICTORIA looks a bit younger in my coin and there are a few small differences Such as where the leaves in her hair just almost touches the colon mark after the D. If someone can point me in the right direction to find my half penny and it's value, it would be very much appreciated!

This link might be helpful http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/halfp.html

I had trouble finding stuff online myself so I bought The Bronze Coinage of Great Britain by Michael Freeman and it has helped me. Between 1860 and 1894 there were 19 different obverses and reverses for the half penny, mostly with small differences like you were noticing. Your 1889 in particular only had one die pairing that year, the 17th obverse and 19th reverse, represented by the letter S in the book.

I've moved your thread to the British subforum, as it's a British coin.

As for value, the best reference from your point of view would be the American Krause catalogue; the NGC database page for this coin uses Krause values.

Never use NGC or any foreign sites to value British coins they are just awful . Not even as a simple ball park guide. They either over estimate by double the market value or undervalue by the same.I think most British coin collectors would agree Coins of the UK is a better guide for pricing http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/values/halfp.html
