Does anyone here like to search rolls while on vacation or away from home? Sometimes when my wife and I go on vacation, if we are driving to our destination, I will call banks in that area and order boxes of halves or other coins. I figure if I'm too busy on vacation, I can always bring the boxes home and dig through them. Overall, I've had great luck with finding silver halves and proof coins. I never return the coins to the same branch or bank because I don't want to ruin possible future connections. Does anyone else search on vacation?

I did just last month and had great success.I am only doing pennies so I would go to local rural banks and buy 5 rolls here, ten rolls there, mostly customer rolled stuff. I actually got 2 rolls of all wheats doing it that way. I have had the most success with customer rolled rolls.

I think my girlfriend would dump me if I did that on a vacation.

Although I have done that with local banks around town. I give myself a 20 mile radius from my house. So far I have only turned up wheaties, 1776-1976 quaters and a couple of Susan B's.

Some banks though they do not let you buy the rolls for their face vlaue. They tell you, that you have to have an account with them in order to do that. Has that happened to anyone else?

The backup plan for when the banks do that, I just go to the local grocery store.

I roll search all the time, you just never know what you might find.
Here at home I always get D- minted coins so I could get a lot of P-mint coins that I need when I am on my trips. Roll searching never gets old for me and it is something to do when the wife is out shopping.
