once circulated, it is very difficult to tell the difference.

Silverwolf has it - impossible to tell with a circulated coin. The German planchet has a more matte finish, with vertical lines running on the fields (according to Charlton, it's similar to a bullion coin). The Canadian planchet has a more polished and shinier finish. It's difficult to tell even in mint state - maybe it's still possible on an AU coin, but not beyond that.

The way the core and the ring lock is also different for the two planchet types, but you'd have to destroy the coin to find that out. The German planchet has an inward groove on the core, the Canadian core bulges outward to lock into the ring.

The coinsandcanada picture is horrible, it's a well circulated coin, and the arrow it's pointing to near the rim actually shows die burn (die wear), not a German planchet.

Although there seems to be a market for graded German planchets versions, I am not sure why, there was around 10 million or so produced, now ARP has obviously reduced these numbers drastically you can find 1996 rolls at most shows at affordable price. They have no eye appeal except for a label

If they have been circulated, then there is no value above face.
I would just spend them, it is not uncommon to still find them in pocket change.
