All I asked you to do was to check your scale....
Geesh!

I do not have the coin anymore.
I had to pass on it due to the fact that it is a forgery.
The weight should be correct +/- 0.01 grams.

What is funny about not buying an obvious (after examination of the edge) fake coin?

You said it was "stunningly well-made" but now it's "an obvious fake"?
Strange to claim to be helping to educate others, but then withhold the educational information.

It is still a well-made forgery in my opinion, which makes it a true in this forum. Somehow some of the "pillars" do not seem to like my contribution.

Quote: What is funny about not buying an obvious (after examination of the edge) fake coin? You say that you no longer have the coin in your possession because you had to pass on it. So, how did you have the said coin in your possession in the first place if you didn't buy it? Is there a dealer out there that has that much trust in you that he lets you take possession of it without paying for it only to post it as a fake then return it to him? I find your story to be just that, a story and nothing more. And what I find funny about is that 98% of us have called you out on it several times and NOW you tell us that you do not have the coin! That's funny! Great story! Edited to add, Perhaps if you posted this in a more mature adult manner and not a childish let's play a game manner, you would have received more positive replies! As stated by another member, Some of us are too old for such games! Especially when there isn't any educational knowledge gained, only frustration!

These images of a certified piece are not taken at the same angle as the alleged counterfeit and there is no supporting information to clarify exactly what we should be looking at. All we have to go by is thq's assessment, and coinworldtv hasn't even said whether he agrees with that.
Again, we can't be educated by merely taking a test, we have to know what our grade is, even if it's pass/fail.

One last time - can you explain what are the specific diagnostics from which you can tell this coin is fake?
If you want to educate us...don't just say "this coin is fake." State WHY you think it is fake. That helps all of us learn and educate others in the future.

I have few scales that I paid about $20 for ... at various hemp shops scattered over the US. They also claim accurate to +/- 0.01 gram. Most are close, but sometimes they can be off by +/- 0.1 gram. That is what I always reference them to unworn modern coins. I then place several on the scale to check its accuracy in a given range.
Even very expensive scales have to be calibrated. The same goes for all test and measurement equipment.

Maybe this would have been better received over in Precious Metals and Bullion. The purpose of forgeries like this is to dupe bullion buyers, not coin collectors. The 1907 Eagle hole in the Whitman album is an easy one to fill.
