Looking for opinions on this early large cent cull. Could possibly be a 1794? What do you think it is?

I say it is an ebay auction candidate starting at 99 cents with no guarantees of anything. Maybe someone with a lot of time on their hands will figure it out and pay a few bucks for it.

Dateless without the aid of a hallucinogen. Does acid etching for date work on copper, even without severe pitting?

If you had the coin in hand, there might still be enough detail to see something playing with lighting and angles.. but who knows

Conder101 might be able to identify it.

But to me looks like a cull.

Check the edge...

All 1793 and 1794 large cents have edge lettering.
1795 large cents have either lettered or plain edge (reeded edge exists but is extremely rare)
All 1796 large cents have plain edge.

Another thing to check is weight

1793, 1794 and 1795 lettered edge cents weigh 13.48 grams
1795 plain edge and 1796 cents weigh 10.89 grams

Yes it's a 1794. The right branch ends in a double leaf all the 1795 and 1796 caps end in a single leaf. There are only two rev dies in 1793, they both end in a double leaf. One has a three leaf cluster below the O in OF the other has a single leaf, This coin has a single leaf so that eliminates one of the 1973 reverses. On the single leaf 1793 rev that leaf barly reaches the left side of the O in OF, on this coin it extends well past the left side. So it is not a 1793, 95, or 96, so it must be a 1794.

Wow, that is very worn. A lot of history of usage there.

Only 1794 cents have that style of dentilation. 93s are beaded and 95 and after have fully separated dentils (look up off-center errors for these dates to see what I mean)
