Ok, I posted a couple of days ago asking for help regardind a box (1000) of 1979 P SBAs. I had opened 9 of the rolls (225) and found approx. 90 near dates. The quality of the coins to my amateur eye appeared good (pictures posted in my last topic) and they did not appear to be circulated. I sold the whole box for $1800. The buyer knew how many near dates I found and the remaining rolls were left unopened. I am going on vacation soon and could have used the extra money. My question. Did I make a good sale or should have I opened them all up and tried to sell the near dates seperatly. What do you guys think?
Thanks,
Mike

How much did you get the box for in the first place?

then I would say it was a great deal. Did you keep the 90 near dates you found?

you got $800.00 over face value for a series that isn't very popular right now so with nothing invested in it I guess you did ok unless some of the near dates were super duper high grade coins

I say it was worth it if you needed the money then heck who cares. you made 1800 from nothing and yeah selling the nears coulda been more profit giving but also the same time you gotta ask how long would of it took?

And you gotta consider, if you removed all the near dates and sold them individually, how long would that have taken you? And what would you have been able to get over face value for the remaining SBAs? Overall, I think the sale was great. To have made more $$, you would have had to invest more time / more money ( TPG grading).

Time is money. The ease and speed at which you made this deal has to be considered. You may have made more in the long run, but I think you did pretty good going with the guaranteed profit.
