This seems like a good idea, I hope they do it well. The current mint designers aren't reliably producing good coinage at the minute in my opinion.
I would gun for a traditionally British design (or maybe a symbolic coin with both Britannia and Europa). Or we could really double down on it and put out a satirical coin of Britannia bricking up the chunnel while retaining the 'Friendship with all nations' legend.

That looks rather bland.

Hopfully that is a potential design, made by a civil servant and not The Royal Mint. Has a UK coin intended for general circulation ever included a date before (by date I mean day not year obviously)?

That is a very politically correct and boring design.
As the 1973 50p featured hands, perhaps the Brexit coin could have a similar theme. How about the traditional British two-finger salute?

That's the best they can come up with?

That is rubbish, no wonder the reception is so poor. It seems that everyone except the mint is capable of putting a nice design together. Take a look at this weird knockoff token thing, much better design in my opinion:

Ben, that token is interesting. Where did you get it?

Politics certainly brings out the humour in people. Looking down that Twitter thread there are some funny designs. The design the HM Treasury put out is as boring as it gets, but why would the Treasury be releasing a coin?

On the third try, the Brexit coin will finally be a reality on the 31st of Jan 2020. Plans are for 3 million to enter into circulation on that day with another 7 million to follow later on. The Royal Mint Tour is going to open the whole that day so folks can mint of up three of coins as strike your own with special packaging with the date. Cost of tour and SYO coin have been increased for that day. From the 1st of Feb thru the 12th of Feb, the Brexit coin will be available as a SYO coin but with standard packaging (no date on these). We will have to wait to see what sort of offerings for this coin that The Royal Mint puts up on their web site when it goes on sale. Rumours of a two coin set are circulating.

a fluttering union flag would have been better with the word brexit written across and the date
