Okay this one may be REALLY hard, also seller's photos. I doubt I can get better photos than this, but I'll see once it gets here. I bought this mostly because I really want to see what it looks like in hand.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say MS-66.

This appears to be a very high grade coin. I think SilverDollar2017 is on the right track. I see very little evidence of bag marks or other damage. I see some dark marks on the cheek, but they might not be scratches... possibly just discoloration. This would easily move it a couple of grades down is they are scratches.
Overall, the coloring is terrible. It also has the typical weak strike you see with an 1885-O.
I also agree that this coin is hard to grade. It would be MUCH easier to grade in hand.
Assuming those colored lines are NOT scratches this coin could be a 66-67.

Certainly tough from those photos. I will go MS65. I am certainly curious to see what the final result is.

This one is interesting, PCGS gave it a 64, but I believe it's technical grade could be as high as a 66 if it were blast white. I dont see really any marks on it, except for a very light scratch on the reverse, and very light chatter on the cheek and field(obviously the toning could be hiding much more). The catch is obviously the toning, it looks almost exactly like it does in the photos, at a shallow angle it looks like it's covered in dust, but at a deep angle it pics up an attractive pink and blue sheen(more evident on the reverse).
Overall I agree with the grade given, I'm very curious to see what it might look like under than skin, but I don't think I have the guts to try to crack it out and play with it.

Since this coin is a common date ... and not worth a lot ... it would be curious to see what a conservation process would do to improve its looks.

Quote: ...I believe it's technical grade could be as high as a 66 if it were blast white. Luster is key. A dip long enough to remove the color would likely diminish the luster so much it might not even make 64 again. A blast white coin that's dipped out could look worse but there's only one way to find out. Since it's a low value common date I would have no problem starting out with a quick light diluted dip. You're right on about the grade. The negative eye appeal and lack of luster held it down and with full luster and good eye appeal it would be a gem.
