Hi all. Got myself a few ancient Greek coins and have been looking through Sear Greek coins and their values and am still unsure on a) how to date this coin and b) how to tell the difference between the different Ptolemy's.
Any pointers welcome.

@MD71, your coin has some unusual damage to it: the series of peck marks at three o'clock on the obv plus the weird edge scraping from about twelve to three o'clck on the rev. I'm not saying that this means your coin is a fake as a couple millenia have passed since it was struck. However, does it weigh the correct amount? Can you maybe confirm that you got it from a reputable source?

As to the dating and attributing, Someone else who is better versed will have to weigh in. I believe that the monograms on the rev are key.

With that long chin I think it might be Ptolemy VI.

I believe it's Ptolemy II Philadelphos (285-246 BC), Sidon mint.

Bob PT II was my first thought for me it was a toss up between the two.

Thank you all.
The coin, with others came from a good auction house so not too worried about authenticity, though the marks are a bit nasty.
So basically is it just down to matching his portrait up? And as Spence pointed out, it's down to the reverse to pin a date to it?
