I received this today as a thank you. This commemorates the 80th birthday of Elizabeth II, and it is a big 35mm in diameter. As a comparisson the silver pre 1968 Canadian dollars are 36mm.
I too have this and do like it, I'm wondering why all of a sudden though they are making these 25c big like that? I've contemplated getting the 25c birds that are also that size, I guess its a unique thing to collect is these large quarters.
For these specialty quarters I usually have to buy from the post office and they way over charge for what you are getting. I never saw that one anywhere though. How much larger than normal is it?
The regular 25 cents are 23.88 mm. These commemorative 25 cents are 35 mm.
After the 80th Birthday of the Queen coin in 2006, the RCM issued the Queen's 60th Wedding Anniversary coin in 2007, and the Anne of Green Gables coin in 2008. They are all oversized and colored, and come on a souvenir card.
