I know there is a lot of damage on this coin and it would be of no interest to most collectors, but it appears to me to be made of a different metal. Ignoring the damage, it looks more shiny and smooth and although of a slightly smaller diameter and thickness seems to weigh about the same as a comparison 1981 quarter (both around 5.6 grams). My apologies for posting such a damaged coin, but I am trying to figure out why the metal looks so different. I'd appreciate any thoughts.

Just looks like a mangled clad Washington.

I agree, quite worn and damaged, it looks like it used to be a slot machine coin at some point in time before it sustained all the damages, that;s why you don't see any reeding on the edge.

There's nothing wrong with it, other than being beaten up and multilated. The metal is correct. It's just Post Strike Damage ( PSD).

Looks like the rims have been ground off on a grinder.
Other than that looks normal. You can see the copper core
so don't know how it could be a different metal.
