My wife and I went up to our neighbor's house on Halloween to have a cold one since my kids are grown up and don't trick or treat anymore. He was telling me how he opened up his piggy bank his dad had filled up for him when he was a kid. He was born in 1961 and so I thought that sounded interesting. We know the family well; his dad has passed on - great guy, had the pleasure of getting to know him before he passed.
Anyway, my neighbor brings out big bags of coins and asks if they are worth anything. He had big bags of Walkers and Franklins, another bag of
Washington quarters both pre and post 64; dimes pre and post 64, a big bag of nickels and another of Lincoln Memorials - maybe some wheaties sprinkled in. I even saw a couple of
Peace dollars. He also had a bag of Ike's which I know gets some people here revved up as well as another bag of Kennedy's - mostly clad it looked like but still. I told him there's a lot of silver there definitely worth some money but probably nothing crazy valuable.
It was neat that his dad put all this away for him. I told him if he ever wanted to sell it (he doesn't need the money), I'd give him a fair price - special Greek price (inside joke there) - but told him I'd hang on to it if I were him just for the sentimental value and pass it along to his kids.
Was a neat coin story so thought I'd share.
