found while metal detecting I know cleaning is a no-no but soap and water would not remove enough grime to see date or mint mark so used silver polishing cloth how bad did I hurt value or grade thanks

Interesting find for sure, and probably didn't have much value in its dug state, but what you've done here has essentially left the coin worthless.

totally destroyed it, there where other options you could have tried, soaking it in olive oil, acetone soak, soap and water soak, but never silver polish, I am not familiar with US coins, so maybe there is a chance it can be a whole filler.. but someone with more knowledge will be along to help you with that..

Harshly cleaned and damaged. Silver polish is one of the worst possible things used to clean a coin. Better is a soak in 100% acetone/distilled water. Even soaking in soap and water is better.

Oh - well when you said cleaned it I guess you did! That's pretty bad. Value? Not anymore.
