This uncirculated 1961 Frankling half dollar is in an old NGC "no line" holder. It's not a particularly scarce or super valuable coin, of course, but I really liked the toning and the overall look of the coin.

There is a smudge on the holder which I'll try to clean up with Slab-Renew when the coin comes in (seller photos for now.)

Thoughts on a grade vs. NGC?

Is the stain on the obverse on the coin or holder? I like the toning a lot.
If on holder I'll give it a 64, if on coin I'll give it 63
Rest in Peace

It's on the holder.

You mean the bluish line below the date? I didn't even consider that.

Yup, Mr. Frog. I referenced it in my OP as well (smudge on the holder) -- I hope it will clean up with a bit of polish :)

It came today. The obverse toning didn't photograph well, but the reverse did. My photos show more detail than the seller's (probably due to stronger lighting) at the expense of some of the color. Very clean fields, and a bit of prooflike contrast especially on the reverse. Sharp eyes might note the slight reverse die rotation, a fact neither I nor the seller noticed.

NGC graded this coin MS65, but in hand, it's more in line with my "eyeball grade" of MS64, and I think it would be solid at that grade.

I was thinking more along the lines of MS 64 too. I have a 1961 proof half with tremendous toning and cameo. Capturing it in a photograph is difficult.

Lovely toning, I would have guessed 64 as well.
