Hello,

I found this penny and the L and Y appear to have a smaller font.
Would this be caused by over-polishing the coin?

Thanks,

Shawn

Me too - skinny letters are the result of (heavy) die polishing.

The thin lettering is due to die polishing.

So why are the letters smaller? Because the devices are tapered. Smaller at the top, wider at the bottom. Why do they do this? Because if they didn't, the coins would get stuck onto the dies. So when they polish at die, the fields are reduced. When this happens it shorts the height of the devices. Thus making them thinner.
