This is being auctioned on ebay as a proof but I don't see it on Greysheet.

This is a RARE 1884 Morgan dollar "PROOF" in NEAR GEM BU!! There ONLY 875 minted and this one is NICE NICE. This proof coin is Well Struck with RAZOR Sharp devices that show great separation. The surfaces of the coin has a Deep Reflectivity. This is a great opportunity to add a GORGEOUS Morgan dollar Proof to your collection!

I would be very suspicious. If it's "good" why the heck is it not slabbed? Early Proofs really deserve slabs as much as I hate to admit it.

A Proof in "near gem Brilliant Uncirculated?" That's encouraging.

I will say, the slightly-displaced 4 in the date is characteristic of that year's Proof.

If it is a proof then it's probably an impaired proof. I'm guess that's from the ebay seller Southern coins or something like that. Their photos are also enhanced and often way too much.

This photo has been doctored. You can see the symetrical blotches behind her hair that have been cropped and pasted. The lighting has been directed to add shadows to that area as well. I just watched a show on the discovery channel about how to detect doctored photos. it was very helpful.

Proofs do not look anything like that.
I tried to put a picture of a nice Morgan proof here, but must have done something wrong. If someone can instruct me I will put up a nice photo.

Sorry Amazon99, I have been gone for awhile, my wife has been in the hospital for a couple of weeks.

I didn't see the name of the show, I just caught the tail end of it. I wish I could get it on DVD, if it comes on again I will post the name. Discovery channel is notorious for replaying things several times, I hope I catch it.

In my Krause it's around $5900!
Big bucks.
But I am not nearly an expert on grading - so I do not know if it is what they say.
You bidden?

Grey sheet is bid $6450 ask $7000.
All I can say is we sold it (to another dealer, by the way) somewhere in between.
My main point is that the look of a proof is very unlike that first coin pictured, which looks like it was plated or dipped or I don't know what...

I think these may be, pretty sure, possibly be reproductions
I would be very suspicious of such a rare coin being auctioned off here. I would think Heritage would be the place to go

It thats a proof coin then it has the look that it might be cleaned, cleaned, cleaned. I don't like the look at all.

Hi y'all...

I have certified 3-4 proof Morgans and this coin looks very very suspicious. Most, but not all, proof Morgans have minor to heavy cameo. This coins looks cast, polished and/or Made in China. I handled, as a third party, a '94 PF69 NGC Ultra Cameo 2-3 years ago and it was a major highlight of my 54 year coin buy/sell trading to date. Coin sold for $120K at the time. Absolute beauty Gem.

Wonder if "proof-like" is being marketed as proof in this case.

I would like to add a true proof Morgan and a MS65+ DMPL in my collection someday.
