Hello pretty sure this is authentic but the reverse has me just a tad concerned.

What are those tiny holes on the reverse?

The coin is authentic in my opinion and remember a days pay for a Roman soldier so a lot were struck and many survived to this state like yours. It is pretty rough being under ground for over 1000 years. Link below, that is the result of an open auction from Roma UK. Should look pretty familiar to you.

I thought so too, but it's good to hear it from you.

Thanks

It is a heavily faked type; I would want to see clearer pictures, including of the edge, as well as an accurate weight.

An indicative, but by no means conclusive, relates to the edge of those tiny pits.

A casting bubble would have smooth edges, a corrosion pit would almost always have rough edges.

Cast copied coins can have a smooth almost greasy feel to the fingers.

XRF analysis may help, looking for trace elements. The ancients had no way of refining out a lot of the trace elements, which toghther, may add up to as much as 2% to 3% of the total weight of the coin.

What makes me feel uncomfortable is also the difference between the letters and the portrait. The letters present almost no damage, while the portrait is heavily worn. But without better pictures it's impossible to be more assertive.

Also it might just be an artifact of the Nero denarius series in general from some mints etc. Here are a bunch from VCOINS with much the same issues on the surface.

The wear on the coin is consistent to what I've seen and the examples provided by Lshop.
