1956D Lincoln with a high D mintmark.

Almost touching the bottom of the nine. It would have been nice to have it actually hit the nine!

The mintmark is in a 'normal' position if it is between the date, rim, and vest. Yours is normal...albeit somewhat high. They are common like this.

One interesting thing about 1956D cents is that two of the more valuable die varieties are found on cents with high placed mintmarks - 1956D-1OM-001 and 1956D-1MM-008. There's some small chance yours could be one of these - I cannot see enough in your images to make any determination of the kind.

Thanks Chuck!

Re-examined the coin, nothing else going on, just a high placed D.

hello I have one of these high mark pennies the end of the nine and top of the d are touching. I have heard this is rare but besides this forum I have not seen any proof. what is the worth of a high d and the value of the touching d. also how many of the touching d are supposed to be available? mine looks alot closer than the person who started this link. how do you get a good picture of a coin mint mark and date. I tried a scanner but the size was limited. I'm such a noob.
