Hi collectors ,
in your opinion is it possible to determine if this Cuban 40 centavos silver coin has high, medium or low relife star?
Thanks in advance to anyone who would help me

Here is what NGC says:

Quote:
Coins with high relief stars normally exhibit a weak key and palm tree on the reverse. Coins with low relief stars tend to exhibit much more distinct lines in the valleys running towards the center of the star.

I would say yours looks like the high relief

Too bad it's worn. I'm pretty sure, there is no 'medium'. Do you have a '16 for

comparison? These came only in low. I'm guessing, in it's MS, it was high relief.

Don't forget, value also depends on the # of reeds. There's coarse & fine,

14X vs. 12X. I'm thinking 146 vs. 121, or something like that. I like the simple,

yet eloquent design on these pieces. I sold them for yrs. on the bay, until one

buyer thanked me, then told me they were forbidden, oops.

Thanks very much mates for your replies
As I suspected, the difference is clearly visible only on high grade coins, but I agree with you that it's may be a KM#14.1
Unfortunately, I haven't a 1916/1920 example for a direct comparison

I didn't know that detail, fioti. Is it visible also on the other Cuban silver pieces with the same design (but different demoninations) of that period?

This is a pic of a 20c, I posted years ago. So it's a yes on the 20, not sure about the

others. Try the search function here, I remember Cuban coins have come up.
