I found this 1958 D with a funny twist. Ole Abe has a true to life goatee. What a heckuva place to have a die gouge! The crazy thing about it is the "Hairs", appear to overlap each other. Almost like it was done intentionally although I know it wasn't.

In the olden days we used to call a die crack along his ear '' PEN IN EAR '' This one would have been called ''knife in chin'' .

It could be a small Die Chip forming in that area.

It could be but I guess what makes me think it is a die gouge are the abrasion lines running north and south. Still a pretty cool cent to find.

It also follows the die scratches that fade lastly near near devices. SO it maybe new flow lines moving towards the closest rim direction.
