Hi All,

I just wanted to know if anybody has any knowledge of the mintage numbers of all of the 1919 and 1920 Penny variations? I will list what I know of these below (according to Maccas book):

1919 (no dots): Mintage 5.810m
1919 (dot below bottom scroll): Mintage inc. in above mintage
1919 (double dot- dot above top scroll, and below bottom scrol): Mintage inc. in above

1920 (no dots): Mintage 9.041m
1920 (dot above bottom scroll): Mintage inc. in above
1920 (dot below bottom scroll): Mintage inc. in above
1920 (dot above top scroll): Mintage inc. as above
1920 (double dot - dot above top scroll and below bottom scroll): Mitage inc. in above

Thus the only mintage numbers given are for the 1919 and 1920 no dots, and all the "dot" varieties are included in that number.

Does anybody have any idea of the mintage figures of the "dot" varieties? The 1920 dot above top scroll must be very scarce as its value is $200 in VG in Maccas and on ebay yesterday it sold for $165. Must be rarer than 1925?

Cheers,

Ben

I suspect the numbers are included is because no one really knows when that particular die change was made. It's not like the SVBD Lincoln Cent, where they know when one die stopped and was replaced with the other.

Apparently the 1920 dot above top scroll (rarest) has a mintage of approx 20,000 and that was "being generous" so I was told. It's also the hardest to identify because of the die faults etc. Try this website http://www.thesandpit.net/index.php...920dat_penny which gives info on the 1919 & 1920 varieties.
