Hi Guys I got this coin 4 months ago and just received it last week. It was an expensive coin and the reason it took 4 months was that the delaer had to apply for french export permit for this. This coin is Ex Numismatic Fine Arts 1982 and comes from collection of Richard McAlee so it has a great provenance coming with it. It also has amazing eye appeal at hand.

Well worth the wait - another great acquisition. I just bought a lot a few days ago and have been checking the tracking every day. I can't wait to post when they come in. Nothing like this beauty though.

@Spence I agree I learned how to be patient with this coin. I am usually very impatient when it comes to getting coins specially with slow and problematic postal service in Canada. I had numerous argument with postal service for my packages but as you said I learned sometimes there is no other way but to wait !

Thanks @TravelCoin yea it indeed worth it. I always wanted a nice portrait of caligula . He is one of the famous tyrants that was missing in my collection. So by getting it now my julio-claudian dynasty is complete except for Claudius which would be my next target. But caligula was always on my hit list till I found this beauty and although it was expensive (highest coin I ever paid) but I wanted it badly specially it has great provenance of being from McAlee collection so I didn't hesitated it.

As long as you're not trying to get a denarius of Claudius, you should complete the set.

Thanks for the article Travelcoin. I also knew based on experience in auctions that in general claudius coins are much rare but did not know the theories behind its rarity

It is not really a good idea to link to a live auction. There are plenty of lurkers here and this might attract unwanted attention to the coin. It is also not a good idea because there may be others like myself who considered bidding on this coin and now have to decide if they will bid against you.

Hi Orfew
Sorry for this. I thought the CNG is very famous auction and most serious collectors follow items there so there is no secrecy for it. I personally might not bid on this coin now as I am already spend a lot in last auction so for a while I wont be spending more on coins. So don't worry about me bidding on it but I am sure some guys would as it seems a popular item for many collectors.

Funnily enough, the two of the 12 Caesars that I currently have coins from are Claudius... and Caligula.
Granted, neither of the coins is silver (nor are they that nice).
