Ok folks, I'm a little concerned with this green on my Roman bronze. Anybody have any thoughts on it?

Could be of concern - take a little wooden toothpick and poke at it a bit, if it's loose, then it is an issue. If it is solid and hasnt changed since you bought it, then it is likely safe - a lot of tetradrachms have that sort of encrustation.

A side note, that is a very nice tetradrachm, very cool reverse.

Thanks for the advice, Ben! I'll give that a go. Yeah, I love the coin. I like collecting Roman coins with snakes on them. I've had a few in that past that I've let go that I'm regretting now

I once stupidly sold a nice coin of Agathodaemon all coiled up - definitely wont make that mistake again.

A close up picture of the effected area would help, however from what I can make out it doesn't look like bronze disease.

That's a super coin, btw.

Great Cobra reverse! What's the attribution of the coin?

Thanks Palouche! It's a Hadrian obol from Alexandria, I believe. Here's a better picture. It's well over a year old and the coin hasn't changed at all, so I'm pretty confident it's not bronze disease

With the better pictures I'm not liking some of the areas. A spot along the edge on the obverse and a small spot under the coil of the Cobra look a bit suspect. If they are soft and powdery than it maybe the start of BD if hard than it's not. Keep an eye on it.

Thanks again, Echizento, I just tested those spots you mentioned and nothing came off... it's hard on there. I'm still gonna keep an eye on it, as I love the coin.
