Is the second 6 In the date right? It seems out of place to me! I am asking for opinions on this. I know it is a worn coin.

Hi moose59!

I've dug out my bag of obsolete French coinage and found a couple with the same date, which I've scanned. I think the second 6 looks the same on these.

France-1966-1/2-Franc

There is no variety listed either in Monnaie Magazine or in my rather ancient 1989 Gadoury. Fifth Republic coins weren't collected that much in France until the dramatic explosion in coin collecting around 1999-2000 when everyone tried to complete sets of the old coins from change before the Euro was introduced.
