Just my newest Morgan dollar. Picked it up at an online auction. It's nothing special but I really love them, the heft and size. I'm suspecting it has been cleaned though, because there is crud around the lettering but nothing on the larger areas. I'm thinking about investing in a slabbed CC, but pickings around where I live are kind of slim. Anyone have any suggestions as to what years I should be looking at? I'm not very knowledgeable about US coins.

The 82CC, 83CC, 84CC are the least expensive CC dates and the most common CC dates. A MS 64 will cost you a little over $200. You may want to consider getting one of these dates in DMPL as there some beautiful DMPL Morgans for these CC dates. A MS 64 DMPL for dates will be in the $600 range.

Thanks for that. I was actually thinking about getting one from their first year of issue, I don't know if that would be prohibitively expensive though. Is there a slab that is preferable to others? I hear that PCGS is better for US currency whereas NGC is better for world coins.

NGC or PCGS is fine to purchase. Take you time look at a lot of coins and get a nice one. If you are buying online, a CAC sticker will assure that you are getting one that is high end of grade.
That is a nice 87 that you bought.

The first year of issue (1878) isn't expensive, especially the P and S mints. PCGS and NGC are both recommended. Coins with a CAC sticker mean that CAC has reviewed them, and they are exceptional for the grade assigned by the TPG. Nice 1887! I don't think it's been cleaned.

I'm going to have to politely disagree on this one, I'm no expert on morgans but the way the larger fields are spotless whereas the letter are so dirty. It screams cleaned to me, Let's see what everyone else says.

I see no evidence of cleaning in these pics. Any chance we could see some angled shots that show the fields in different lights?

How much did you pay for that when converted to US Dollars? I'd rate that as a XF to AU... there's a definite gouge / scratch on the back... in US dollars I'd rate that as a high $20 to $30 coin on ebay.

@ Silverdollar2017. Ok, that sounds interesting. There is a guy where I live that says he has a 1878 CC rated MS64 for sale for 450 euros. I might have to take a closer look at that. @ Coinfrog: I have added some pictures, not sure how well they came out. @ Captain Jack: I paid around 28 dollars for it + shipping.
