Hi All, I was gutted to miss out on a really nice 1794 penryn volunteers token yesterday. I've been looking for one for ages and they seem rare to find, and even rarer to find in a nice condition. Does anyone have any ideas on where I may find one? Picture below is the one I missed out on yesterday. I am desperate to have one in my collection!!
Many thanks

Have not found you a token, but have found out the following.

Sir Francis Basset, Baronet, of Trehidy, commissioned as major commanding Penryn volunteers 3rd April 1794, promoted colonel 24th December 1795. Became Baron de Dunstanville 17th June 1796. This piece must date from about this time.

I note there is no value stated and no promise to redeem this as a token. Bell lists this item with a blank edge, where it was common for tokens proper to state where they could be redeemed. Bell also groups this piece with private tokens which were produced to commemorate people/events etc rather than to be used as money, although many were due to the shortage of coin. It is likely that this item was more of a commemorative piece than to be used as currency.
