I usually would pass on these, but they took my best offer and I liked the color of it. Could someone explain what they think happened to get the grading "altered surface" and what they perceive has been done to this coin?

With respect, I don't think it's possible to understand PCGS's reasoning from these pics.

but I do agree with coinfrog - who knows what the graders are thinking when looking at the coin

I have to say the first photo of the coin with PCGS slab looks off for a proof IHC . Hope you can relate .
