it is a http://www.coincommunity.com/coin_f...n_dollar.asp

i couldnt find where the mint mark would be but I searched the coin over so I guess theres not one, but anyways what makes this unusual is that its basically on a chain (maybe drilled down the center?) and in a Swank box.....

No, not drilled, it's a key chain if you unscrew the round piece on top you'll find that there is a ring encircling the Morgan.

Hi Inthecrew and welcome,

Usually if used for its function as a nice key ring fob, there will be abrasion on the edge where the bezel touched the coin. If it is relatively "fresh" the edge might be OK and the coin could be collectible. However it should be obvious that the coin probably wasn't BU when the device was assembled and maybe even has been cleaned or even polished as it was intended as jewelry. I have one given to me by a family member and although I don't use it as a key fob any more, I certainly treasure it for it's origin. You have a nice grandmother!

If you unscrew the knob at the top, get the coin out and show us pics! Oh, and by the way, if there isn't a mintmark (which would be under the eagle on the reverse) then it is from Philadelphia.

I have a few of those, and they all unscrew. Try putting WD-40 on it without it touching the coin.

Have you tried using a scanner. I tried taking pictures with my 4.0 meg camera and they all came out pretty bad even with good lighting. I scanned the same coin in at 1200 dpi and it came out really nice. You should give it a try.
