Looks like some sort of die damage. Interesting find but not a variety.

I still think this is die damage, but this was just listed as a doubled die reverse.

I disagree with this listing, just die damage. It is far from the typical location for a DDR and it does not look like another L to me.

If it is happening to multiple coins, and is well away from single squeeze doubling locations, wouldn't that suggest die damage?

I think I can make out a series of NNE-SSW abrasion marks at the base of Monticello. Could these marks be gouges inflicted when the die was wire-brushed?
