Large motto with extended rim on back side. I dont have a caliper but its close to 1.5x thick on that end. Some slight die cracks along the upper lettering in that same area. Is this a common error? Ive seen some w/ wierd rims and extensive cracking but nothing that looks as clean as this one.

Absolutely a rim Cud. Frank Leone did a long study on these to prove the collar can rotate, it was the moving rim Cuds that proved his hypothesis on that matter. I see a lot of these from 1864 LM deuces, not so many in other dates though they do show up in all the major circulation dates from 1864 through 1871.

A rotating collar would not produce moving rim Cuds. Rim Cuds are the result of a broken die and have nothing to do with the collar.

Of course you are correct, that's what I get for typing out something at 3:30am and little sleep. I meant to say this is a rim Cud, however there are some cuds/die chips on the 3rd side (edge) that Frank did an interesting write-up on. I will try to scan the piece this week and share it. Sorry for my confusion.
