Excellent choice ! I collect German/Austrian coins from the 16-19th century.

I suggest buying "Standard Catalog of German Coins: 1601 To Present" - look up at Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Standard-Cata...18261&sr=1-1

Also, if he is focusing on crowns (large coins, Thalers) I would suggest buying the Davenport German focused books - http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b...erman+talers

Enjoy!

Quite ambitious. This is Gerhard Schön's "Deutscher Münzkatalog 18. Jahrhundert", covering 1700 - 1806 http://www.gietl-verlag.de/deutsche.../themen.html

And this is the "AKS" catalog (Arnold/Küthmann/Steinhilber, "Großer deutscher Münzkatalog von 1800 bis heute) http://www.gietl-verlag.de/grosser-.../themen.html
