I agree, a very nice purchase, congratulations! The coin holder appears 'dealer-made,' I've seen a few dealers encapsulate their own valuable coins for protection when selling.

Congrads on your purchases! Too bad we can't get a better picture. For a second I thought it was going to be a Shield nickel, but eh, who collects those things, right?

For those of us who still have some faith left in this great hobby, I recommend this book. Wonderful information. I believe education is the key to not getting taken by these criminals. Great book for advanced collectors and beginners alike. Official Guide to Coin Grading and Counterfeit Detection by PCGS Introduction by Q. David Bowers.

$1100 is closer to F12 money, and that would be in real plastic. Way too much money to essentially be buying raw. Sorry Tim, but that dealer doesn't exactly sound like he's looking out for your best interests.

Bah. I'm thinking I might try and get a refund for it, and look for a nicer one that's got a more spot-on price elsewhere. I now know you don't necessarily have to buy the first one you see.
Think he'd give me my money back, or am I out of luck?

Depends how he is. You still didn't get that badly ripped off though, because prices for G-F are fairly close together. Starts to climb considerably after that.

Yeah, I know, that's what I was thinking... I mean, maybe it's a VG-10... how would THAT have affected the price? Probably would've pushed it up to the 1050-1100 range. Wish I had a better camera so I could show you guys and let you see for yourselves.

Tim, if the coin were strong for the grade and it being a key date, why isn't it already in proper plastic? Sorry to be such a prude, but I've been around long enough to know most dealers and collectors would have sent that off to pcgs or ngc in a heartbeat to maximize their profit unless there was a problem. It will be interesting to see what he says if you try to return it.
