1876 Dime - What Happened To This Thing?

I picked this up for a buck in a junk bin. I am assuming that it had a hole drilled in it at one time, then someone decided to solder it shut. I can't figure out what caused those scratches around the area, though...they are found on both sides of the coin.

Anyhoo, it's gone through hell and back in its 132 years of existence!

The hole does not look symmetrical so I would guess that someone hand drilled that hole using a punch or awl, scratching up the surface of the coin in the process. Some damage is certainly more interesting than other kinds, and this is definitely one of those interesting kinds of damage.

Right, I couldn't resist not getting it for a dollar...too strange to pass up. I don't have one of these dimes, but I don't think I'll be throwing it in a 7070 anytime soon.

Actually, I saw a post on here about a dealer that was assembling a 7070 album with the ugliest examples he could find! I thought that was kinda funny! I like original methods of collecting and that one is definitely original.
