Food for thought. I've not seen this before today, so thought I'd share video link for those who yet to run across it.

About 7:30 in, I find Quality Control interesting. Ring, bounce test to detect flawed coins.

Interesting.
The YouTube title says "Minting Gold Coins"
No gold coins are shown being produced in the film, only silver and bronze.
In those times the ring test was very important. People would not accept silver coins that did not ring "true". A "dead ringer" usually meant you had a counterfeit.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...
