HABIB asked:
Could the legend on 8 be making use of the 'sol/i invictus' phrase?
No, but you've prompted me to have another look at #8, and I think I can see enough to ID it.
The readable part of the reverse legend says "AAVGG" -AVGG meaning "of the emperors". All this tells us is that at the time this coin was issued, two people were recognised as emperor. What we can't read clearly is the attribute the emperors are acclaimed to have eg. VICTORIA AVGG (Victory of the emperors) or CONCORDIA AVGG (Agreement of the emperors). All we know for sure is that it ends in A.
Now I look at the obverse again, I can read "IMPT" - and since so few emperors of the period have names starting with T, it pretty much narrows it down to Tetricus I. And there's only one type of Tetricus I listed in Sear and on Wildwinds as having a reverse type ending in AAVGG:
LAETITIA AVGG (Gladness of the emperors).
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
