PCGS - Toned gold coins are not seen often, and that is especially true for this piece. With a mintage of just 45, this 1876 Proof Gold Dollar, graded PCGS PR65CA is an outstanding example of this rare group.

Is that due to excess amounts of copper in the alloy?

Very attractive coin, one that I would love to have.
As for the true views, my personal experience with them is they are very accurate to the coin in hand to the point that I actually feel comfortable buying sight unseen if I can see the true views first. Again, this is my personal experience and may vary from others.

Stunning coin. I have a PCGS toned gold coin that is shown nicely and accurately in a trueview.
