Hi Fellow banknote collectors. Question..There are 3 banknotes all the same except for the serial numbers. All are graded 66 and are the same price. Which TPG graded note would you buy?. PMG? PCGS currency or PCGS gold shield grading?.I am not saying that one is better than the other, just would like your opinion..

I'm in camp PMG, with PCGS a close second. I do not own any PCGS Gold shield notes.
Edited to add, To any new collectors, PCGS Currency and PCGS Gold Shield Currency are two separate companies. Jason Bradford bought/leased the PCGS trademark from Collectors Universe somewhere around 2009. Some time between 2009 and 2016, Collectors Universe probably realized that the sale was a strategic mistake and decided that it wanted in again. But it wasn't possible to reclaim the PCGS Currency trademark as the brand thrived under the new management, who wasn't interested in a sell-back. So Collector Universe restarted its currency grading service under the PCGS Banknote Grading brand that focuses on Chinese and World notes with offices in Hong Kong and Paris. Apparently, PCGS Currency took issue with that, and in 2016, a court ruled that Collectors Universe cannot use terms that are synonymous with "currency". Clearly banknote and currency are analogous. So Collectors Universe rebranded its currency grading department as PCGS Gold Shield Grading.

As far as paper money is concerned, PMG is hands down more conservative and consistent than PCGS.

I agree that Pmg grades notes in a Conservative (moderate) manner. PCGS currency grades in a More than conservative moderate manner, thus making a note graded PCGS currency a better Quality note...This is just my Humble opinion. Thank you for yours.

Grading fees are similar between PCGS and PMG, but joining PCGS is $49.95 and PMG is half that. Joining the ANA also gives you direct submission privileges to PMG and NGC. Also, it's been my experience that turnaround times are less at PMG. We can debate which TPG is more consistent and/or accurate till the cows come home, but to some it comes down to economics and for some others, it's the holder.

I AGREE. PCGS currency + PMG are the best thing since sliced bread to happen to Australian pre-decimal notes. Although it takes time and money to have the notes graded it,s well worth it. Our auction houses + banknote dealers DO NOT like TPG graded notes as it exposes there overgraded items..
