I have like mentioned before approximately 12,000 to 13,000 Lincoln cents to go through. I am increasingly finding that coins of the post copper era are garbage, and after a few short years common circulation coi8ns are usually very stained, and damaged and pretty much garbage. I am to the point that if it's date is 1983 or newer I toss it. Are there any post copper cents that I may miss and will kick myself in the rear for possibly overlooking them. I seriously feel that over the course of several years these post copper cents are going to be worthless, unless captured right after minting.
Has anyone else have an opinion on this situation ?

Dan check the three sites for what you might be missing before you start searching them. There are a lot of nice ones, just know what to look for helps the search.
This is the home pages for these sites. Once to learn what to look for, then you can make a better determination:
Wexler's doubled die page:
http://www.doubleddie.com/1801.html
All denominations.

Variety Vista: (CONECA listings)
http://www.varietyvista.com/index.htm
All denominations.

Coppercoins.com

Cents only

Hello. When I hunt, I check everything. Post and pre cppper. Mostly hunting for RPM and DD varieties. The LSC varieties are some of my favorite to hunt for. I reccomend you take Mr Coops link to Doubledie.com and copper coins, as they can give you a large number of things to look for in modern cents. Personally, DDRs on the memorial building columns are also something fun to look for in the 2000's. And also if you aren't already, I reccomend weighing any 1983-1988 pennies for struck on copper planchet errors. Those are worth lots. Hope this helps, and happy hunting!

You do as you wish but keep in mind that there are several varieties and errors during certain years in the 80's and 90's, all zinc cents too. I just found
my second 1988 D FS-901 earlier this week. That one cent alone is with no less than 50,000 cents.

OK, you guys got to me. I'm going to make my first run through and look for Pre-Zinc cents. Then later I will go through and look for examples as listed. I have a 5 gal paint bucket, and 2 ziplock quart sized baggies full of everything. By the time I'm finished going through them, I should have abetter idea of what to look for. It just hurts to see the very poor quality of post copper cents.

Yes I agree with you , the zincolns as we call them are shortfalls of our U.S. coinage . But for error and variety collectors they are collectible . Keep searching .

Hey Dan, Here's an idea that works pretty well and doesn't take learning every variety in existence. Work out the top ten or so things you would think worth finding on zinc Lincolns. Maybe 1995-D DDO-003, 1992 CAM, 1999 WAM, 1983 DDR, 1984 doubled ear, whatever. Then when searching you only have to pause for those plus anything that is in acceptably nice shape. Ignore the off date cruddy ones and you'll miss a few minor things but spend way more time finding good stuff on good coins. Anyway, works for me.
