Don't really collect Greek ancients, but this one has really caught my eye. Don't know what it is though.

Any help would be great.

Whatever it is, I don't think it is authentic, either in design or fabric. Perhaps it is a modern die imitating an ancient type; I'll see if I can find anything.

The date given is 550BC; whatever the design is, I think it is after then. It says ALE / XANDER on the reverse and I imagine the animal is a lion. I think the obverse says ANTIOCHSON.

Yeah I searched the date and anything with a lion on the reverse, but came up short.

I think the obverse copies this roman era (77-78AD) coin from Antioch:

While the reverse crudely copies something like this coin, applying the name Alexander:

I couldn't find any Alexander coins with a lion like that.

Spence, I didn't bid on it so I don't have it in hand. I try not to bid or buy on coins I know nothing about. Obviously, not bidding on this one any longer. Thanks to all of my fellow CCF members.
