I took everyone's advice and decided to search all of the Post Copper coins also. The VERY FIRST coin I checked is this 1982 LMC. I'm not sure if this is Copper, or Copper plated, but I lean heavily towards Copper Plated Zinc, because of the cracked appearance.
I find two oddities, First is the circular Crack in the copper plate, The second is the what appears to be Grease Filled Die at the "D" of United, and the "S" of States, and continues across the bottom of the word States.
Did I find a keeper.
Do you have any idea how long it will take me to go through 12,000 pennies, one at a time.
This may turn out interesting, thanks for convincing me to hang in there.
And Yes, the coin has been soaked in Acetone.

Dan

The the line is incuse, it may have been struck through something, or the coin was scratched. It there is a line and it is raised, then it might be a die crack. I doubt it is a die crack because they don't flow that way on the new coins. On the 19th century coins they die break around the design between devices.

But we just don't see that occurring now days.
